UNITEC JUMPS ON CROWN TO SECURE 2ND WIN, 90-66
Unitec took advantage of an early bubble, played smart in maintaining the advantage all throughout to improve their record to 2-1 with a win over Crown, 90-66.
Throwing a slew of able players in a constantly rotating five on the floor on Crown, Unitec used an ultra-balanced strike that saw five players in double figures and another two close in tow.
Chris Co and Alex Evangelista led for Unitec, each scoring 16 points with Co adding 3 rebounds and Evangelista racking up 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Jun Roberto and Joel Ratuita added 12 points each, with Roberto adding 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals to his line. Ratuita registered a double-double by adding 10 rebounds in his production. Allen Gamallo had 10 points and 3 rebounds, as Gilbert Batilles added 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in a solid contribution to Unitec’s bid for the leadership in the tournament.
Unitec jumped on a surprised Crown starting five to go ahead after the 1st quarter by 12, 25-13. Crown never recovered from the early deficit as Unitec kept subbing with fresh players afforded by its deep bench. Crown tried to mount a rally but was thwarted time and again by Unitec’s fresher legs on the floor playing the transition game so well.
Joseph Aral led Crown and tried to keep them in the game by constantly attacking the basket, scoring 16 points and hauling in 16 rebounds. Albert Virgo ably assisted Aral on the frontline, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double output.
Mark Soriquez added 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals quarterbacking his squad, while Edison Lim gave 8 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists to Crown’s cause.
