BOYSEN NOW 4-0 WITH WIN OVER CASA ELETTRICA, 75-69
Boysen continued its winning ways, coming through in its 4th straight close contest to stay on top of the standings, waylaying Casa Elettrica with a narrow 75-69 victory.
Boysen is now virtually assured of a spot in the final four playoff format in the 2008 ABU Corporate Cup 1st Jam. Casa Elettrica is pushed to the brink with its 3rd straight loss, needing to win its remaining three games to salvage any hope of playing beyond the elimination round.
Roy Punla continued to recapture the form that solidified him as an elite player in ABU, this time scattering 27 points on 10-15 shooting from the field and 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. Punla kept barging inside to troop to the free throw line, once in a while sticking sure jumpers around the perimeter.
Richard Ortiz kept being the steadying force in this amazing elimination round run for Boysen, collecting 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks in an all-around performance for his tournament-leading squad. Joseph Raz added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to help steer Boysen to the win.
Casa Elettrica was in the thick of things all throughout, despite the absence of ace slotman Ross Reyes. Pankoy Santaromana spearheaded his team’s gallant stand, almost pulling off the upset on the tournament’s leaders with a 23-point, 8-rebound outing. Melvin Patawaran helped his skipper by turning in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Anatolie Amper was his usual frenzied and energized self as he ran his way to 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Boysen and Casa Elettrica traded punches all throughout the game, and Casa Elettrica actually stole a 1-point lead going into the final three minutes of the game. Boysen, however, held on with steady execution coupled with bad breaks going Casa Elettrica’s way in the final minute.
