Exclusive by Epoy Del Rosario.
Multiline found its groove in the dying minutes to turn a close contest into a late rout, subduing Casa Elettrika for its first 2008 ABU CorpCup Win, 87-77.
Finding themselves in a dogfight late in the second half with a very feisty Casa Elettrika squad, Multiline gathered strength from its reserves to build a cushion that they capitalized on until the final buzzer. Multiline put forth another balanced performance as a team, having four players score in double digits, with three others scoring 7 and 8 points. Multiline also had 18 assists and 12 steals, a testament to the team’s improving chemistry on both ends of the court.
Jojo Ison led the attack when his team appeared downtrodden out of the gates, sparking Multiline’s offense with hustle plays after they fell into an early deficit. Ison scored 14 points and took 6 caroms off the boards to go with his 2 steals. Elmor Manalili shared the spotlight as he scored most of his 12 points in a telling run near the end of regulation. Albert Tamase played big in his 1st game for Multiline, scoring 10 points and adding 3 boards. Dunhill Villaruel gave out 7 points and 3 assists while Joseph Gaytano manned the point and scattered 6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Ryan Mabuhay dished out an excellent performance in crucial stretches for Multiline, erupting for 8 points in a perfect 4-for-4 clip.
Casa Elettrika matched Multiline’s team balance as five players ran double figures for their team. Melvin Patawaran and Pankoy Santaromana both scored 14 points, with Patawaran adding 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and Santaromana 7 caroms, a dish and 2 steals. Kenneth Trinidad scored 13 points while big men Ross Reyes and Kenneth Uy chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
