BOYSEN HOLDS OFF LATE RALLY BY CROWN, 91-78

Boysen survived a late rally by Crown and held on for their second straight victory with no defeats in the 2008 A.B.U. Corporate Cup 1st Jam played at the CCP gym.
After erecting an imposing lead on Crown built over three quarters, Boysen appeared headed for an easy win as they entered the final period leading 73-49. A mad dash to the finish, however, summoned back Boysen’s starters to finish the job as they were threatened in the final 3 minutes.
Richard Ortiz continued to lead Boysen’s impressive showing in the tournament, scoring 21 points to go with 12 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and 2 blocks. Roy Punla was masterful in going for 20 points and 4 rebounds for his team. Jonathan Galano, John Santiago Roderick Zagala and Joseph Raz were instrumental in building Boysen’s big lead, as their well-balanced attack stomped on Crown’s confused execution on the offensive end. Galano had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Santiago had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 steals in an impressive all-around performance. Zagala got 9 points and 5 rebounds while Raz compiled 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Crown appeared tentative and tense in the first three quarters, as they were easily pounced on in the fastbreak with unforced errors and sorry misses. Mark Soriquez, Edison Lim and Joseph Aral, however, refused to give up after falling behind by as much as 31 points, as the trio struck late to bring the deficit down to 8 points with still over two minutes remaining. Soriquez presided over a fastbreaking assault in the closing minutes, finishing with 21 points, most of them coming in the 4th. Joseph Aral helped in keeping Crown in the game as he erupted for 22 points and 8 rebounds to regain his old form. Edison Lim was running on fumes to give out 20 points and 8 rebounds and spell Soriquez on the transition.
