Unitec relied on a deep bench and a spunkier play down the stretch to pull away from Casa Elettrika and secure an 85-60 win.
Joel Ratuita was the best player in a very balanced team that saw five players score in double figures, with one more scoring 9. Ratuita’s 25 points and 12 rebounds led Unitec.
Alex Evangelista poured in 12 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals in his first game back. Chris Co added 12 points and 9 rebounds for Unitec’s cause. Jun Roberto had 10 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists while alternately manning the point with Evangelista, even as Nats Francisco led the frontline and provided a strong presence inside to finish with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
After leading 18-16 after the first quarter, Unitec started widening the gap as they finished the halp up by 5, 36-31.
Casa Elettrika, despite having only 7 players for the contest, gamely stayed with their opponents for over three quarters. They were within striking distance until early in the 4th quarter as they were only down by 10, 57-47, to start the period. Unitec’s deeper reserve started taking effect late in the game, however, as they ran Casa Elettrika’s starters out of this one.
Melvin Patawaran, Ross Reyes, Kenneth Trinidad and Kenneth Uy formed a very balanced core for Casa Elettrika. Patawaran struck for 16 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists for top scoring honors, while Reyes added 2 steals and 2 blocks to a double-double clip of 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Trinidad went for 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Uy contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds to round up Casa Elettrika’s efforts.
