CROWN OUTPLAYS MOLDEX TO GRAB 83-80 VICTORY

The 2008 ABU CorpCup 1st Jam opened up with two thrilling games with Crown slugging it out until the final seconds with Moldex to win the battle of the pipes, notching an 83-80 win in the 2nd game.

The two teams gutted it out in each and every quarter of the game, with Crown enjoying slim leads all throughout but Moldex always only two to four points behind.

Kelvin De Chavez and Richard Chua led the early attack for Crown, with De Chavez alternately sniping from inside and driving through the heart of the defense to hang 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists on Moldex. Chua was a sight to behold as his vastly improved game netted his team 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. He repeatedly ran the floor and methodically broke down the opposing team’s defense for easy baskets on transition and the halfcourt set.

Mark Soriquez and Edison Lim provided the spark in the backcourt, as they provided hustle and a fast transition game to help keep Crown afloat for most of the game. Soriquez scored 17 points as Lim finished with 14 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. Albert Virgo also provided a big boost with 9 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 5 blocks. Joseph Aral had a breakout game with 6 points and 5 rebounds.

Andrew Ambatali carried most of the load for Moldex, going for 25 points and 13 rebounds in a valiant effort. Jeff Gaw had 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists, while Jeff Uy compiled 14 points, 4 assists and 2 steals for Moldex.

Crown and Moldex were in a tight contest near the end of regulation, with Crown coming out on top after Soriquez converted on two clutch jumpers then completing a crucial steal as Moldex tried to tie the game in the dying seconds.
