BOYSEN OUTLASTS MULTILINE FOR 1ST WIN, 81-78

Boysen had a huge lift from ABU newcomers Roderick Zagala and Jojo Mercado, as well as crucial clutch baskets from beyond the rainbow arc by John Santiago, to stave off Multiline and claim their first win, 81-78.
Mercado was a big factor when Boysen broke away in the 1st half, going 4-of-8 from the floor, sniping from the perimeter to finish with 8 points. Boysen led at the half 44-31, behind a furious assault from Richard Ortiz, Jonathan Galano and Paolo Olan. Ortiz led Boysen with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Galano went for 15 points and 5 rebounds, while Olan put in 8 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals. The biggest plays, however, came from Zagala and Santiago, who scored most of their points in the waning moments of the game, after Multiline mounted an inspired comeback to briefly take the lead and threaten to steal the game at the 4-minute mark. CROWN OUTPLAYS MOLDEX TO GRAB 83-80 VICTORY

The 2008 ABU CorpCup 1st Jam opened up with two thrilling games with Crown slugging it out until the final seconds with Moldex to win the battle of the pipes, notching an 83-80 win in the 2nd game.
The two teams gutted it out in each and every quarter of the game, with Crown enjoying slim leads all throughout but Moldex always only two to four points behind. (more…)

UNITEC CLOBBERS CASA ELETTRIKA LATE TO WIN 85-60

Unitec relied on a deep bench and a spunkier play down the stretch to pull away from Casa Elettrika and secure an 85-60 win.
Joel Ratuita was the best player in a very balanced team that saw five players score in double figures, with one more scoring 9. Ratuita’s 25 points and 12 rebounds led Unitec.
Alex Evangelista poured in 12 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals in his first game back. Chris Co added 12 points and 9 rebounds for Unitec’s cause. Jun Roberto had 10 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists while alternately manning the point with Evangelista, even as Nats Francisco led the frontline and provided a strong presence inside to finish with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
